What's New

P/PV Releases Two New Reports from the Higher Achievement Impact Study
P/PV, in collaboration with Dr. Leigh L. Linden from the University of Texas at Austin, released two new reports based on our ongoing random assignment evaluation of the Higher Achievement program in Washington, DC. Higher Achievement is an intensive, academically focused program that provides after-school and summer academic instruction and enrichment activities for economically disadvantaged fifth through eighth grade students. One study, funded by the William T. Grant Foundation and The Atlantic Philanthropies, examines Higher Achievement's overall impact on youth one and two years after enrolling in the program. The other, funded by The Wallace Foundation, provides a snapshot of the program's effect on learning over the summer of 2010. How We Work

P/PV is a national nonprofit whose mission is to improve the effectiveness of social programs, particularly those that aim to help young people from high-poverty communities successfully transition to adulthood. Working in close partnership with organizations and their leaders, P/PV aims to:

  • Promote the broad adoption of appropriate evaluation methods;
  • Advance knowledge in several specific areas in which we have longstanding experience (juvenile and criminal justice, youth development and labor market transitions for young people); and
  • Enable organizations to use their own data, as well as evidence in these fields, to develop and improve their programs.
Ultimately, we believe this work will lead to more programs that make a positive difference for youth in high-poverty communities.

Message from the President

"It was a busy summer at P/PV, as we have been developing a framework for our work that will allow us to target our distinctive piece of the vision that is laid out in our Priorities for a New Decade white paper. We were fortunate enough to have David Hunter, a leader in managing to outcomes, lead us through his theory of change process this August. It was a challenging exercise but an invaluable experience, as it has already helped up to refine and clarify our mission, approach and organizational goals."
