It is with deep regret that I share with you that after almost 35 years, P/PV will cease operations—on or about July 31, 2012. Our board has concluded that P/PV is not sustainable, given current economic conditions and funding trends.

Notes from a Wind Down

82 Days and Counting

We are launching this blog to ensure that we keep doing—right up to the end of our organizational life—what P/PV has always done: documenting lessons learned. At some point when P/PV's wind down is completed, I will write up the deliberations and calculus that led us to this difficult decision. In the meantime, I hope to provide some bulletins from the front, as we try to manage this difficult process as responsibly as possible.

What has the first week taught us? First and foremost, that what we're trying to do may be more unusual than we had imagined. I realize now that in our initial communication, we didn't do enough to emphasize our intent to work full throttle through June 30 when the majority of staff will leave. We were surprised to learn that several funders and partners—particularly those in regions where there have been some sudden nonprofit closures—had simply assumed that our work would cease immediately.
